In January 2020, a new strain of coronavirus was identified in Wuhan City, China, that had not been previously identified in humans. This novel strain of Coronavirus, named COVID-19, will generally cause symptoms such as coughing, breathing difficulty and fever within 14 days of exposure to the virus, though more severe symptoms can occur, particularly in elderly patients, those with weakened immune systems or patients with long-term conditions.
As of the 17th February 2020, a total of 1772 deaths have been reported in China and 3 deaths outside of China as a result of COVID-19 disease, though this number will likely rise as the disease spreads.
